[0.98-0.982] Quest rewards

Some easy quests have too big rewards. "Escort Noblewoman" gives superior Ignys Longbow or 300 gold. "Rats in the Ruins" gives 300 gold.

[0.982] Things are more polished now. So quests stand out. 300 gold from easy quests ruin economy. Why you should bother with economy if you can get 300 gold for nothing in "Rats in the Ruins" quest.

I agree! These quests are very easy for a huge reward so early in the game. Having a choice of what to pick - while cool - makes the rewards even more valuable because I can tailor it to what I think is better.

Seriously, I often don't have to do anything in that rat quest. The encounter is a chance or something. Sometimes there's a corpse spider there (a very difficult foe) but sometimes I can just collect the club for doing a bit of light travelling.

There are still a lot of tough monsters in the early game, that Longbow is a godsend but we should have to earn it.

Looking through the files there are actually 2 quests. quest_ratsintheruin and quest_ratsintheruin2

I agree that 300 gildar is a bit much for these weak quests. Really 100 gildar would be enough for each of these quests, maybe 150 gildar for the corpse spider one.

I like that there are two variants, when the corpse spider one came up I was caught properly off guard.

Also, the noblewoman one has a variant, at least as of the current beta. THAT threw me, and I ended up doing something horribly evil and out of character just to see what happened...

The rewards I really like are the ones where a unit joins you - I've had spearmen, archers and pioneers pop up. Really useful early on when it's slow to build stuff.

How so? You just fight the bandits, if you don't give her up. I don't see how that equals immediate death to your character.

Okay, in that case I can understand it. I usually am about level 3 or 4 before starting any quests.

The lack of choice is also quite understandable. You are surrounded by an armed group, who are not really willing to negotiate. There is not much you can do in this case. Either you give them the noblewoman or you fight. I can probably see you trying to pay the ransom, if you have enough money, but thats it.

if its possible it would be great to tie reward to the actual quest done

if not, just a huge nerf on reward, all those things are broken early game

I've mentioned this before too...300gildar is way too much for some of these quests.

Imo, the gold you get from these quests should be a bit less than twice the resale value of the item in question. (I say this without knowing the resale value of the doomclub and ignysbow, but I imagine for such an early level, both are in the realm of 50gildar.) Thus makes the gold reward around the 100gildar mark.

Ignysbow is still too powerful. I hate to admit that cause it's really fun to waste my enemies from afar, but dealing 17dmg/turn makes it just too easy.

I look at it this way: when you embark on the quests, you do not know whether they're going to be cakewalks with big payouts, or a dangerous fights that you need to be high level to handle. 

People like to gamble, and this is one Hell of a gamble.  I would think that's why the developers put those doppelganger quests there.

Is 300 a lot in early game?  Sure.  Are the bandits and the corpse spider a lot to handle early game?  Yup.

I agree they need to be nerfed. I'd also throw out that Quests that are labeled as easy should probably be able to be completed just by a low level sovereign. If not, they aren't easy.

Just have the longbow introduced later on the in game. (which, I'm sure, is what you were already planning)

Forum moderators have a banhammer. Derek has a nerfhammer.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving higher reward items that also have a reasonable level requirement. For instance, Medium quests providing level 4+ items, Hard providing level 7+, etc.. This assumes that the pain and effort of pursuing those quests is worth the benefit and time, though.

Multiple versions of lots of the equipment would be very interesting, hope you look through some of the equipment ideas and think about if that particular equipment needs... something.

That said I like the idea behind the elemental bow, mostly because it looks awesome to fire, so love to see 2-3 versions of it
