Synegy between champions!

I know we may well be past the point of balancing heroes but I got me an idea!

I would like to see synery between the hero profesions in an army stacks, creating abilities to be cast by the hero or units.

Hear this one out.

Defender + Defender = Lays a balister turret on battle map.

Defender + Assasin = Allows bunkering and counter attack to unit.

Assasin + Assasin = 10% to ranged.

 

I put this forward as i'm playing a custom soveriegn and went as a defender to give it a whirl. I think this would allow many more startergies for soveriegn creation, but design of army stacks. Instead of cut and paste.

 

What to you think?

Dont worry about the spelling

Karma for your own combinations.

And I do like the idea of synergy, would give an extra bit of strategy.

In all seriousness, I'm not really excited about synergy between champions.

 

They need some refinements in their own fundamentals, but adding another layer in creating interactions would be adding features when the ones we have are not yet fully implemented.

Hate to dislike ideas.. But this idea is not a thing I would say, would fit the game.

They already put in an XP penalty for using several heroes in the same stack, so making so using multiple heroes in the same stack combines into extra abilities is.... well....

Also this would take focus away from trained units, and hopefully, upcoming special trained units (more units similar to golem etc), I would much rather see more specially trained units than random synergy abilities that may or may not be useful.

Besides, you allready have synergy between the right heroes, a mage hero can boost, buff and haste a warrior hero to achieve a skill of massacring opponents.

So not so sure exactly what you want, except free spells (Or abilities) that fits the play-style of fitting a ton of heroes into the same stack

I did'nt envisage this idea to muddle the amount of champs in and army. More the opossite. The synergy will work between the 2 highest champions only so that mega stacking is still unviable.

I was hoping the idea would just lead to differnet tactics and stack builds on the map. I wa sthinking of abilities that enhance the trained units and not so much the champions, so the leaders of the army can effect a specialist stack in some way not hinder.

I build interception, mop-up and all conquering stacks mid-late game as it is.

 

I'm going to sit down and flesh this idea out and repost it a little more sober and articulate.

I don't think synergy of Champ with Champ is a good idea. Afterall, champs already get an XP penalty for joining up in the same group. To make matters worse, you only realize this fact AFTER the battle is done and XP is divided up. There should be some warning or icon denoting the limted XP that your champs are getting.

What I do think is a good idea is to have some Champ types grant additional tatic bonus to differnet types of troops that are grouped with them. A type of 'leadership' bonus if you will.

Assassin grants bonus crit chance
Warrior grants bonus hp
Administrator grants bonus XP
Mage grants bonus magic resistance
etc
etc

This way, your troops can gain a different and unique perspective on any given battle, depending on who they're assigned to follow orders from.

Naturally, having multiple champs in the group would grant multiple bonuses, but the penalty percentage in XP would also be multiplied into those tatic bonuses. This would naturally balance the effect.

example: If the Warrior grants +5 hp per unit, then having another champ in the party would half that number to +2.5 hp per unit. Having 2 warriors in the group would still result in that +5 hp bonus since 2.5 + 2.5 = 5

Obviously this idea complicates combat even further...and would result in more programming, game balancing, and ideas...but it's an additional consideration to keep the player at guessing as to what the best combinations of forces there are....if EVEN there is a best combination...
