To paraphrase a disappointed voter from WI, “This is the end of democracy. The end of the USA as we know it.”
Tom and Ray Magliozzi “of Boston (our fair city), MA” as they say it at the end of each “Puzzla (dialect)” are ending their 25 year run on NPR (35 years on WBUR Boston).
Yes, disappointed fans: I can take recessions, depressions, invasions: You name it. I cannot take this piece of ugly, heartbreaking news. This really sucks. First it was Bonanza. Then ST-TOS and every other ST spinoff, Space 2099, BSG (the original) and sequel. "Mt. St. Elsewhere", and "Hill St. Blues" perhaps worst... “NYPD Blue” and NYPD Det. Sgt. Andy Sipowitz.
But ”Car Talk”?!
Cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war, that this foul deed shall smell above the earth...
The brothers Magliozzi were corny, funny… sentimental (they had their mom on the show one Mother’s Day and she was as funny as them). Despite their jovial demeanor, they solved many a problem for folks calling in. Stands t reason. They both graduated M.I.T. Engineering, and even spoke at an M.I.T. Commencement.
Well to be fair, while Ray is 63, Tom is 75. Time to smell the exhaust pipes… errr… new car. Something like that.
Anyone who listens to NPR to listen to the boys knows what I mean. At least there’ll be reruns (don’t bother calling in) starting this fall. Don’t miss their website has full program recasts (and cd’s of their funniest shows as well as other merchandise for sale).
"Tom: Don’t drive like my brother!
Ray: Don’t drive like mine!"
