Just wrapped up a ~400 turn game as Resoln. Completed the Master Quest. Overall, it was fun.
From the start I was hooked when I completed the quest that gives you the three spearman brothers. Early game they were very effective. It would be nice if the mercs and monsters obtained from quests or camps were upgradable, unless they are intended to only be viable for a limited time (if that's the case, maybe have the camps disband after a while, and the units they spawned convert to pop for the player). But more quests like this would be welcome; tangible, on-map results.
I was trying to peacefully coexist (I had my sights on an alliance or magic victory), but Tarth built a settlement where I was going to build a settlement, and so I took it, and ultimately force Irane's surrender. Very cool to gain a defeated sovereign, and I like the Broken Spirit trait. She later became my go-to hero for tough quests.
Aside from the easy AI (I'll kick it up a notch my next playthrough), my only non-technical items of concern are:
There's not enough to do once mid game hits. All quests in my immediate area had been completed; I later had to trek to the other side of the map to complete the Dragons Quest, to find that the AI had not completed even the simple quests.
Also, mid to late game I had essentially won, and was able to pursue the alliance, quests, and magic victory paths simultaneously. The fact that I won through the quest was only because I'd delayed building the various towers of mastery; by games end I had three of these completed. I was also allied to every player except stubborn Gilden (more on that later). I slipped from 1st to second place militarily (the arena quest wiped out all of my strongest army except Irane). I could have wiped out two of my neighbors, but that's boring. I could have built more cities (and I did late game), but I played the majority of the game with five. If some city spamming will be required (I know almost everything is tied to population), then some automation for the non-important cities would be cool: This will be a research city, that will be a gildar city, etc.
This would be my biggest concern and request: the player still is not limited enough
At most, you should be able to pursue two victory paths with any reasonable chance of success.
Overall, GREAT BETA. I'm happy with the general direction and know there's still lots to be done.
Now for some CK II. I have a patch to test and an Island to unite
