We've "all" seen the Tamiya models.....made them, even.....

A couple of guys took it to the 'logical' extreme......

Absolutely amazing.

I remember building a model of the Army's Patton tank. A lot heavier than the Shermans and able to take on the Panzer and Tiger tanks. Those monsters were too heavy and cumbersome but they packed quite a wallop.

Uvah....the M46 managed to make it to Korea....it wasn't around in WW2....

No...M26 Pershing replaced the Sherman.... the 46 replaced that.

BTW...hint...the designation numbers by then related to design date..... 46..47..48... the Ruskies weren't quite so 'accurate'...64...72...80.....all a bit out of whack, really...

Probably a hefty sum. Hunting down all the parts alone would put a huge dent in this ones pocket.

By the looks of it, they made plenty of parts from scratch! I'm sure they must have had their hands on aoriginal to get measurements, or plans or something!
What a mammoth undertaking!

In either case, this indeed would not have been cheap!

That´s nothing ! When I was a kid I had all the sci-fi spaceship-Models from "Airfix", "Revell" and the likes + the ones  in metal from "Dinky toys" !! .......

But I must say this was quite cool as well Jafo

I tended to shy away from Revell. Took more time just cleaning the parts of all that flash and when you're dealing with small parts it can be a royal pain. Tamiya was one of the best though. I once built a Formula One racer. It had four wheels up front and the detail was truly awesome. It had all the links and whatnot for four wheel steering up front that actually worked. I won't even go into the engine detail.

LOL ! Yeah, there were a lot of "extra shit" on the pieces, but I got them all together......eventually.  lmao

I don´t think we had Tamiya in Sweden back then.

Eventually I put the Whole collection in our Cellar/basement storageroom in our apartmentbuilding like a little exhibition...

-Some weeks later there were some Drugaddicts breaking in and Crushed them all...probably Jumped on them, pissed off as there were nothing of "Value" for them there...

Now I can make my own in Carrara 8 though

There were Russian, Japanese, German, Italian, British, French, American. Just about all models. Then I went on to building the big 32nd. scale. I had three favorites...ME-109...P-51...and a FA-18 Hornet. That I modified the shit out of.

I didn't have that many, mainly cause i focused on bombers. I had at one time an enitre wing of B-52's hanging, with no room for any else, except a lone F-4D i snuck in there. (Phantom being one of my favs)

This is a fun hobby, but hardly unique.  I went to a reenactment of an Okinawa assault on a Japanese pillbox, and they had an operational Stuart tank, halftrack, and 60mm mortar.  But none of that held a candle to the flamethrower--quite literally.  Nothing was nearly as impressive as the guy spraying a can of whoop-a** on the pillbox.  Only thing missing were the screaming Japs running out of the pillbox alight--who incidentally the Japs looked strangely an awful lot like Mexicans, by the way.  

 

And right down the road from me we have a WW2 commemorative air force.  They do air shows flying a B-17, B-24, Hellcat, and a Zero.  However, if anyone builds & flies a replica of a C-7 or C-17, I'll be impressed.
