If there's a better place to post this, please let me know. I'll mention little things first, then big things at the end for emphasis
.
Little Things:
*The "your outpost from the [direction] has been destroyed" message is nice, but somewhere (in the right sidebar, perhaps) there should be a one-click option to view the site.
*Relatedly: the mini-map doesn't seem to be oriented the same as the main map. I have a really hard time finding things using the mini-map. At the very least, both maps need "north" indicators. A "find city" command would also be helpful.
*By the way: a lot of the things I want might already exist, but I don't know how to find them because there's no documentation yet. I understand that there's no documentation yet because it would be a waste of your time at this point, but it does make it hard to evaluate a lot of things.
*It's not helpful to have alerts when I take control of a resource I don't yet have the tech to utilize. Instead those !'s should appear when I research the tech that lets me use a resource.
*Resource improvements (mines, shrines, etc) don't properly enter the build queues of the cities that are building them. Sometimes they show up eventually, but never immediately, or even at the beginning of the next turn. For a while I didn't even realize that they went into the build queue at all.
*I can't see roads. I can usually make them out if I put my face six inches from the screen, but they need to be much bolder.
*The option to speed up the animations during battles doesn't take. When I set it to "fastest" and enter a battle, the animations don't get faster, and when the battle is over the option is set back to "normal".
Big Things:
*I don't like the left sidebar, the list of armies and cities. I especially don't like the armies part, especially since armies that are automated or guarding still show up. I'm not sure what that feature does that I can't do just as easily with TAB. The cities part is more useful, because the one thing I really do want a heads-up display of is whether any of my cities is doing nothing... but then again, most of my cities spend so much time doing nothing that the HUD doesn't even show me that in any relevant way.
*Relatedly: I know I'm biased, because city-building is my play style. But there really, really need to be more building options for cities, especially low-level cities. At the very least they should have an option to turn their production into *something* (gildar, research, whatever) so I'm not faced with the choice between spearmen and nothing. But really there should be more buildings, too.
*Exploring bores the heck out of me. A functional Auto-Explore would help, of course, but I'd like to offer a more radical suggestion: let "Explore" be one of the things a city can do when it's not otherwise occupied. Example: for each turn when a city is set on Explore, choose one or more currently-occupiable blacked-out tiles at the edge of my map and reveal the area around them as if units had just occupied them. If that's code-able, I think it would be a great idea.
*Most of all: I'm not happy with the pace of the game. I would consider raising the base movement rate from 2 to 3--better yet, could you let the player set it, e.g. anywhere from 1 to 4? I also don't think my cities progress quickly enough, though having more to build would fix that. Honestly, I haven't even come close to finishing a game yet: after four or five hours, when it's clear that I'm in dominant position, I'm faced with the prospect of at least another four or five hours to actually win (unless I just stop doing anything while I'm researching the Spell of Mastery), and I just can't be bothered. Raising the unit movement rate would help fix that--maybe make a tech that increases it from 2 to 3 if raising the overall rate ruins the early game.
*And finally: my opinion is that the game still lacks "IT". If I were neutral toward it, instead of actively wanting it to succeed, I would have lost interest by now: I'd still rather play Master of Magic (if I'm feeling 4X-ish) or Age of Wonders (if I'm feeling heroes-questing-for-loot-ish) or Heroes of Might and Magic (if I feel like caring about normal units in addition to my beloved cities and heroes). Those are the games you're aiming to supercede, right?
The Biggest Thing:
I still believe that you're on course toward publishing a game I'll love
