Economical Speaker Setup

I've got an old 2.1 logitech speaker set for my desktop at the moment, but I'm having some faulty wiring issues with one of the satellites and I was thinking this would be a good time to migrate to a more traditional audio setup that I could also use for my record player.  Right now I'm thinking I will go cheap cheap when it comes to speakers and amp, especially as I'm no audiophile and I have to keep the volume under control for the room mates.

..The thing is, I'm not really sure where to start.  Right now I'm thinking if I buy some speaker wire and the following, I'll be set:

Can I get some advice from some of you true audio techies?

I just picked up a set of pc speakers myself, Logitec z623's.  Tolerable sound, decent price, and likely fit your needs.  There be a left and right RCA jack in addition to the standard plug on the subwoofer.

That's a functional, cost effective option you've listed though.  It will be light on the low range, but you did say economical, and accurate ain't.

Ah, the separate RCA jacks would be awesome!  About $40 more, though.  I will have to think about that.  Thanks for the thought!

Yeah, 200 watt rms is kinda insane for pc speakers, but they were the only ones on display at fry's that didn't sound like crap, the Bose included.

I can't vouche for their sound, but the 623's are not the only set with RCA jacks, the z323 and z523 are the same deal, RCA on the sub.

I think I dropped like $200 8 years ago into a logitech 5.1 speaker setup for my pc and have been using it ever since.  Still holds up somehow.
