Well I’ve played through a few games now and think you guys have done a real bang up job. Everything feels full and rich, lots of content and that I like. Graphically the game looks better and the diversity of enemy creatures is great. Personally I’m not for changing the game at this point I would like to see it more refined and I’m sure that is what you intend to do. I really want to come back and play this game again and again unlike WOM.
Now for the things that I think should be refined. I love the tech trees however; I don’t feel committed to any one route or feel that there is anything special about my kingdom. I think that once you head down a path that those choices are what defines your kingdom from the rest and you start to have a vested interest. As it stands I’m just waiting for the next ” x” amount of turns to get new tech and eventually I just go for them all and as a result my kingdoms look and operates like everyone else’s.
Changing how you progress through the tech levels and making tough decisions does two things; one it creates a unique kingdom that care about. Second; it provides greater replay ability i.e.; my sovereign found a village and spoke to a man that summoned a dragon. Though I was able to escape the dragon it did eventually destroy my capitol. I was a little pissed but not as much as I ought to be because I can build another one just like it somewhere else. Shouldn’t there be a ruin where my capitol was?
I don’t think you should be able to back track down a tech tree (life is forward progress). We are the strategist, we make the decisions, and if it didn’t play out to our liking then we can try again.
I found that late in the game when you have acquired a lot of settlements managing them all is daunting. And I wonder if it’s necessary. It seems to me that there should be a limit to how many settlements you can have. Outposts are great!
On one last note I really did like the dynasty system in WOM but if you don’t intend on making this a 64bit game with gargantuan maps then I see why you left it out (Although you can change your mind!
.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this game unfolds and want to say thank you for everyone’s hard work. I really enjoy playing your games.
