Trouble starting the installation process

Hi everyone,

I downloaded the beta and have the file sitting on my desktop, but when i click on it, the mouse just starts doing it's circle motion and nothing happens.  When  I restart the computer, I get this error:

"Too many other files are currently in use by 16 bit programs.  Exit one or more 16 bit programs, or increase the value of the FILES command in your config.sys file."

I wish I knew what that really meant.  I quit a bunch of back ground programs, but that hasn't fixed the problem.  Anybody run into this problem?

 

I should also note, im running windows 7 on bootcamp.

I don't know if this will help you but I noticed it took my PC about 20-25 minutes from the time I first clicked on the installation file (and the little circle thing appeared) to the time it actually started installing.  So it may be that you just have to wait and give it time to do its thing and not interrupt it by restarting.

I have the same issue, Windows 7 x64, core i5, 3gb ram. Installer starts after 25 minutes.

It only took me a reboot, and then I was able to install it after only waiting 18 minutes...

I can't even install it because the installer always hangs in the beginning. It just says status: Installing Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and nothing happens even if I wait for an hour. Re-downloading didn't work either.

When you first click on the downloaded file, it's a self-extracting archive that is pulling out the installer to the temp directory and then starting that. If it is super-slow to extract and get to the point where it's showing you the first panel of the installer window, something else (anti-virus?) on the computer has its fingers in the pie.

Zawath, from your text, it's getting to the installer panels/setup wizard but then hanging after the install "starts"? Again, look for something that's actively looking at every file operation. As the "install" itself is also essentially extracting a giant archive to the target directory. There's been at least one other forum post where Kaspersky AV was actively mentioned as having mucked about with the process.
