One of the new options is to have point of interest icons displayed.

This way, players can visually tell what is what without having to be on the cloth map.  I was curious to how well this worked out if I zoomed way out without relying on the cloth map.

Here it is a bit more zoomed in where you might actually use it:

And here it is really zoomed in:

You can turn off the point of interest icons by type. I turn them off on the monsters because, well, I really don’t need an icon to tell me that it’s a monster. But I keep them on goodie huts and on NPCs and Quests.

That is cool. How would it look at an angle at that distance?

I am able to see what most stuff is, but some of the visuals look too square at this POV.

Cool that it works, but it doesn't look good zoomed out that far imho.

We can choose which ones are on? Nice!

This will be invaluable to some of my expansion packs that plan on having mostly monstrous armies.

War of Magic used to do this once in a while, when it forgot to load the cloth map.

It also sort of looks like a giant fish crashed headfirst into land. Or a fish that's being eaten by a dinosaur, or maybe a bear.

By the way, a couple of cosmetic things that might help reduce the overly orthogonal look of the maps:

  1. Increase the 'wobble' in the coastlines, so that the stretches where it's straight don't look quite as straight.  There's already a wobble there, but I think increasing the degree and randomness of it would help.
  2. Make rivers more narrow, and then increase the random 'wobble of them within their squares so it looks like they're meandering a bit more.

We need more wobble!

Love it, looks much better than that ugly cloth map!

Suggestion: Maybe different shaped icons for monsters and other units? Like squares or diamonds...

Quoting seanw3,

One of the things being done to make the campaign more interesting is letting the campaign designer set in XML the behavior of different players. This lets us be able to have a campaign without any traditional AI players.

Some more "wobble", as Cauldyth put it, would be nice.

Also, where rivers meet the ocean needs to be addressed. I assume it's a placeholder until river delta graphics get finished though.

Other than that, looking great. ^^

Especially love the look of the town and the monster lair graphics to the northwest of it.

I dig the icons. I will second that the rivers could some major tweaking.  Looks like they begin and end in random locations, instead of being at least semi-realistic, ie start in mountains or hills, end at large body of water; not to mention their graphic quality.

I didn't see any icons for your own armies. Are you going to have a faction icon for the player (and computer) units?

I agree. Is there an option to have icons above units with their color above them so I can tell whose army belongs to who?

This image is awesome. I prefer playing the game top down - call me a traditionalist.
