Game crashing problems

I've had this game for about a week now, and it has crashed quite possibly one hundred times. I've updated to 1.3, updated my graphics drivers, and updated directX. Toyed with the resolution and the graphics options but none of this seems to help. The crashing is completely random, and sometimes it occurs when I hit the end turn button, and sometimes it happens after a battle. It can happen quite often, or the game can proceed for a good hour without a crash taking me down. I've checked my performance readout, and I'm certainly not running out of memory.I even tried running the game in compatibility mode, which changed nothing. Seriously, I'm at a total loss here. Is there ANY way to play this game so it's more stable than Charles Manson?

what SIZE maps are you playing on?

I have had crashes that happen a lot more frequently with larger maps, and have even had a twelve hour session on a 8 x 8 map, but on maps larger than 8x8 like 10x8 and 12x8 it crashes for me.

Many patches ago there was a patch that introduced the crashing for me and I believe many others. Was something like 1.09U. Before that patch the game was completely stable for me, after that patch it randomly crashes all the time no matter what settings or map sizes I use. It's unplayable IMO. Every few patches I come back to see if it's been fixed, but it obviously hasn't been yet. I played for like 10 minutes today before I crashed, and now I'm going to delete the game yet again and try back in a few months.

Frogboy has a new post on 1.4 in which he says that he iinadvertently introduced crashes in 1.3 trying to upgrade the multithreading for players with multi-core machines.

He says he's found & fixed some of them, but if you've found a problem that can be reproduced you should let him know.

Since this is his personnal 1.4 thread, I'd post 1.3 issues there.

Interesting. I guess my original issue was fixed at some point and a new issue with identical symptoms replaced it and then was fixed with the recent beta patch. Was able to play for a good 3 or so hours today without crashing. Until I started picking up better goodie huts that is, some level 3 or 4 goodie hut crashed me, but I see that was reported in another thread.

Edit: I take that back. I was just lucky for 3 hours. Still getting end-turn crashes, just got one after 30 minutes of play.
