I usually try not to swear on forums.

But if they filtered swearing out this forum would lose some appeal to me.

I'm sure it's unnecessary and offensive.  So is my life, though, and people haven't shot me yet.

LMAO... probably the funniest quote I've ever read on this forum (assuming you weren't being entirely serious, because then it would be sad). 

Everything indeed deserves a right to live-on, whether it be swearing, or Savyg.  Nicely done.

Oh I don't know how to be serious, that's the sad part

I say just implement optional filters, like most MMOs have.  Then people who like swearing could keep it and people who don't could turn the filter on.

Whilst I understand the desire to avoid too much profanity (I tend to avoid it myself, with the occasional lapse into 'mild' cursing in casual situation) I do think it is bizarre that society places this emphasis on words which are 'taboo' for no real reason. I cannot understand why somebody can be violently murdered in a film and have it be rated a 12A (I'm in the UK btw) whereas if a woman exposes her breasts suddenly the rating leaps to fifteen. Heaven forbid if anybody then goes on to use 'the c word'.

 

Am I the only one here that thinks we have this somewhat backwards? Surely it should go:

 

1) Woman shows her bosom on screen. No rating. Nudity and sex aren't something we should be ashamed of. I also doubt any 13-year-old male/female is going to be overly disturbed by this. The parents might be distressed at their children seeing it but that's another matter.

 

2) Person uses obscene language. Low rating. Perhaps children still without full command of the language shouldn't be over-exposed to profanity. Fair enough.

 

3) Person is violently stabbed. Medium rating.

 

Personally as a child I wasn't prevented from watching films with a high rating and I don't think the violence etc did me any harm. However it think it certainly should be far more of an issue than somebody happening to strut around naking spouting profanity.

 I am of the older generation that considers crude, vulgar language to be inappropriate in civil society.  But then after a while, people actually do what they won't say.  That's when, for me, I begin to wonder, if what I am writing is something I would not want my 8 year old son/daughter/neighbor to hear/see/read, than, perhaps, i should consider the possibility of revision what i intended to write.

Don't get old....
