Perhaps we did. My point is/was and continues to be. We shouldn't ban the usage of words simply because people may find them offensive. If the context of ANY word profane or not has gotten to the point of being offensive in intent then the usage or lack of profanities really isn't the issue. However there are those.. whom like the OP are offended simply by their usage. It doesn't matter if one is saying "I played against Blackrainz in multiplayer and he kicked my ass" Or something offensive in intent he is simply offended by the usage. THIS is my primary issue... that people feel not only offended by the usage of a word but ignore both the context and intent of its usage and imply a offensive nature to the word itself. Then feel the need to suggest the rest of us should curtail our usage in order to prevent offending them.

For clarity not to imply that you don't posses some or vast knowledge of the subject... simply that a degree in a given subject doesn't prove ones knowledge in a subject. Great men have forgotten more than we both know and still hold PHDS.

But it does beg the question. How much of your studies were in the formation and history of cultural taboos... probably not much. History is a wide subject with many facets and ones particular interests tend to shape which facet they actually study and further shape what they actually retain.

To purposefully restrict a free mind, what act could be more offensive? No. I will accept their position as existing, but I will not change to accomodate it, nor will I change my behaviour to display respect for something I consider insane. If I don't have that then what do I have? Losing myself to dogma comes at too high a price.

I'd assume this post was directed at me, but my post count has been pretty low recently.

I don't really mind being moderated, I wont even mind being banned for my numerous, flagrant violations.  I've earned it in spades after all.

Please, no over achieving swear filters though.  Nothing is worse than not being able to get a point across because you can't describe a fucking vacuum cleaner.

I once wrote a post of epic proportions in protest of Ubisoft's idiotic implementation, it was followed by an expletive laced tirade on how every non-profane word I'd used in complaining about it was fucking filtered.  I got them all past it too, you could call it a cunt punting shitfucker all day long, but never retarded.  They soon added my creative wording to the list, I expect retard and suck are still banned words to this day.

Ventilation is a necessary building feature to avoid stagnation.  I consider the same to be true for community organizations, those that repress blow up or die.

With that said, I often find that the more someone use profanity, the less worth their words has. As such, it's a good thing it's not censored; it is better to allow people to show their shortcomings.
