I believe one way to make combat more interesting is to create specific weapons ranges and limits.
Obligatory comparison! I was thinking similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. In fact, exactly the same. Looking at the current weapons in the game, I was thinking spears could do two straight squares of ranged damage without being able to attack diagonally. Swords would have full range. Two handed weapons like hammers and broadswords would only have one range damage without diagonal.
I believe that A.I. needs to be fixed first above everything else, but I thought this was an idea that would keep tac. battles interesting without a hell of a lot of effort. Even with stupid AI, putting bonuses and limits could make comabt more fun. I think facing, like in FF tacti, would be a great idea too, but implementing facing sounds like a difficult job to me -shrug-.
