Since you bought it anyway, you might as well revisit it later on. It worked well with many other bug-ridden games. Just leave it in your shelf, come back around patch 1.2 and you'll probably find it much more enjoyable

How does everything work, select, move, Yeah RIGHT! Nothing seems to work intuitively.

It fits my intuitions. Your three problems are "the movie's broken", "it doesn't like my preferred resolution", and "because I'm already angry and prepared to despise this game, I may as well pretend that the UI is terribly confusing - right before I admit that I'm getting a handle on it."

The first two aren't a big deal, the third you could solve with a fresh look or by asking someone here or with the in-game IRC.

The fixed isometric view absolutely stinks!

Drag with the middle-mouse button.

The ability to pan the screen gets worse and worse.

Left-click and drag. Or, better yet: don't pan - this isn't an RTS. Use strategic zoom to get around.

Gee seeing how you are soooo polite I can't see why anyone here wouldn't be inclined to help you.

Regardless here are some suggestions that may improve your gaming experiance.

1. Lower the graphic's setting, turn off shadows and AA, it slows the game down and you really don't miss them much.

2. Play through the campaign to get an understanding of how the basics of the game works.

3. Read the manual.

4. Ask politely.

I have the same system specs as you and the game runs fine under 1.09, minus the occasional crashes to desktop. Most here are happy to help, but try not to be abusive in your posts. It isn't appreciated.

Never understood why *some* people keep pointing at graphics. And it sounds like you saying sprites are something bad. Dominions 3 has sprites and its awesome.

There are definitely some issues with graphics, like Fallen having clipping issues (and general clipping issues with weapons), but I would not say its bad or 'old'. And what is so 'cartoonish' about them? 'Cartoonish' is KB:AP/CW. EWoM is completely different style.

Graphics are way overrated anyway, it's the least important aspect of a game, quality AI is the most important: I'd take gif images (say, for example) anyday over JPEG (say, for example) if there was tangible differences that caused my system to run faster, smoother, and without crash. Cartoon images are just fine with me. If I had a choice, I'd have a charlie brown cartoon image for my sovereign & snoopy image for a wife.

Come on, dude, 1gb of RAM is just silly. I could go on about the rest of your systems specs, but there is NO EXCUSE for 1gb of RAM on a gaming PC. Furthermore, it is one thing to be at near minimal specs for an item or two, but to be minimal on every single item and then to have performance expectations is unrealistic.

Also, the requirement was "1gb available RAM." Your OS probably uses 350mb of RAM if not more. So yes, you are below system requirements.

And while you might be able to buy Civ V, you will not be playing it as your PC don't meet most of the minimal system requrements.

Yes, the UI is incredibly unintuitive. This has been widely pointed out and admitted. Or do you like the eleven step process it takes to correctly target an enchantment on a particular unit? Or the menu dance for equipping champions? Or the various tiny and unlabeled buttons? Or perhaps it is the multi-tab actions menu which particularly pleases you. You call these things intuitive?

On another note, it is indeed silly to complain that a game that you barely meet the requirements of should work at the highest available resolutions, citing performance comparisons to games that are years and years old.

Actually now I am awake (never post whilst medicated) I can see that my system is different. What was I ment to say was that I can run the game at 1920x1200 with AA and shadows turned off and not have any problems at all other then the ocassional CTD. That's what I get for posting when tired, late at night.

Problems on and on. Manage to make a settlement, and figure out how to move, BUT even with the little bit of stuff showing the game is dragging and becoming a slow slide show. The fixed isometric view absolutely stinks! The ability to pan the screen gets worse and worse. It is somewhat smooth in the fog, but anywhere around the explored areas it is a slide show. The figures don't move smoothly they jump and blip.

The requirement for internet and the draconian anti piracy on that game destroyed the playability for me. This game is worse. Pitiful eye candy, unfinished and definitely not playable. Guess I will get Civ 5 and clean this junk off my hard disk.

Your problem is trying to run the game at that resolution with those specs.

Disabling antialiasing or setting it to standard mode rather than adaptive in the ATI CCC should resolve that. However as you're right at the min specs in most regards, performance isn't liable to be spectacular with all the details on. Memory in particular is going to be a rough point as 1GB total means the game will be digging into virtual memory (which can have a severe negative impact on performance) very early on due to Windows taking its own share of the RAM.

As others have noted, please try the campaign if you're confused as to what to do. It serves as an introduction to a number of gameplay and control elements. There are also some video tutorials available here.

Seeing as Civ 5 currently has a number of bugs and technical issues and that your PC is far below Civ 5's minimum requirements, it won't be long before you're starting a similar thread in a Civilization forum.

They also added a feature to turn off outlining. That may also help. Meeting minimum specs on any game is going to have a pretty rough go if you crank up graphics.

As far as the graphics, I rather enjoy them. I really wouldn't describe them as cartoonish, but more like a painting. It is refershing for a game to try something different.

You might want to try 1.1 as well. There are several game changing features that are planned.

I just checked the back of the box, it actually does say under system requirements: 1GB availabe RAM, so I wouldn't laugh too hard.

If the system reqs say the game should work on a TI-85, then the game should work on a TI-85.

I didn't design the game, I'm just saying that it should work on systems that meet the reqs as advertised.

Correct and the OP does not have 1 gb of available RAM according to the post, unless they turned off their OS while playing. He also said the game is bad, and although I disagree, I found solidsmooky's comment funny, and I still do.

The box also says: "increased performance will be noticed on more powerful machines."

I'm just pulling your leg, man, chill buddy. The game would play like shit on a NASA super computer, but they are fixing it and it's getting better. But still, if you only have the minimum reqs, its never going to play well, for a game to play well, it should play well on the recommended reqs. I haven't looked at the box, and rarely do, so I dont know what those numbers are.
