Alright, I wasn't in beta, I didn't see where this game was going, all I read was a lot of great battles (1000s of units) , great feats of magic, and the successor of MOM.
What I got was a very disjointed game, the tech system doesn't seem to flow fluidly, why do we need to research armor before weapons, they apply two different philosophies, the Sovereign an excellent character at the beginning of the game just doesn't cut it mid to late game, in fact your penalized for taking what should be your strongest unit into any major battle because if they die in enemy territory game over, never mind he has 14 sons 3 daughters and a wife.
The army size... I never feel as if I'm leading an army, and I find it just cost to much to upgrade Heros weapons to make them worthwhile, all in all I don't know what I was expecting, but this game doesn't capture it, it just doesn't seem like a cohesive whole, product, more like people got together in a room, sat down and said: "This would be cool to have in a game, so would this, this and this." With little to no reguard to the rest of the game.
The races are basically identical, the controls are unintuitive most of the time. (When I have to make a forum post having to ask HOW to cast a spell, or do anything for that matter, something failed in the QA phase, because that means I didn't find it in game, and the manual didn't tell me. I'm one of the rare people that read those things. ^^; )
When founding a city you want to put it close to resources, but then those very same resources end up blocking the expansion grid of the city so...you screw yourself over for making a city viable?
I really just wanted a game that lived up to what we were told Elemental wasn't it. Given Stardocks Past, I was surprised. I own Gal Civ 1, and while in the long run I didn't like it, (I fail to understand how your race goes through Amnesia from campaign mission to campaign mission. Mybe, Homeworld spoiled me...)
I played Gal Civ II at a friends house, and while I enjoyed it, it suffered from the same fatal flaw.
This game, I thought you know what, this game has an RPG element, I love RPGs, I love Strategy games, this is going to be great!!! It wasn't there's very little RPG-ish, Everything else seems tacked on, I bought the game on the...24th and I've played the game maybe 5 times since then, trying to enjoy myself. I just can't seem to do it, then looking on this forum, I found out about the "Gamers Bill of Rights."
I hate to do this, but I suppose the whole point of this is not to complain without merit, but to explain my reasoning for seeking a refund, the game isn't a finished product, at least I PRAY it isn't. It isn't a cohesive vision, and it just seems lack luster.
