Hi anyone reading this post, please give some reply, I spent a lot of time writing this after playing elemental for 7 days.
The Biggest Problem are the main story/plot, it's interfering with the Element game design and destroying a lot of good concept and limiting current concept that are in play. and to my point of view, it's destroying the Magic system in the game and does a domino effect though out the game. Think about it. what is the leading problem with the magic system? It's the Magic user (hero, sovereign, units) and the four elemental shards.
The story prevent hero to cast magic unless the sovereign gives them essence, which limited hero as potential mages.
Essence worth too much in this game, and the balance of the game is off, so hero dies off like flies. and magic is too weak because you want the crystal shard to be worth something.
Now for tactile battles, WE need BATTLE FORMATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stack of army of unit is not fun, really doesn't add much to the game. because it act like a fusion of 12 units in one (NOT FUN or good)
stack of army of unit does have a lot of potential than you think but you don't want to invest in it, when we still in beta.....now is a good time.
able to add in and take out units in the stack of army like a company of 12, in battle and outside of battle. to make company more flexible and useful
able to mix different units in one company, like archer and shielded swordsman. The swordsman act like a wall to protect archers
Able to research battle formations. HERE IS WHAT I DON'T GET, THIS GAME IS MADE IN 2010, WHY IN THIS AGE AND TIME ARE WE STILL STICKING 12 PEOPLE IN ONE TILE SO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER?ARE THEY GAY???? WE SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO GET A COMPANY TO USE MORE THAN ONE TILE TO MAKE DIFFERENT BATTLE FORMATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........ you guys think like a rock and should have the technology by now.....(sorry have to say that >.<;;
even if this game doesn't have a lot of unit abilities or spells, having different battle formation in this type of game really matter, think GO board game or chess. Both Go and chess doesn't really have a lot of different pieces and GO only have one type of piece. But having different formation for the pieces really matter between winning and losing
get squad or company of unit to USE AND OCCUPIED MULTIPLE TILES in tactile battle as ONE SQUAD OR COMPANY OF UNIT.
for example of a battle formation:
Surround: surround a tile, if a unit in the tile was yours like your Sovereign, the surrounding company will act as a wall or bodyguard. if the tile was occupied by an enemy unit, the enemy unit will either get minus defense or your unit get higher attack.
lets talk about attributes!!!!!
let not just say we told you so......because we did in beta...
having played this kind of game for over 15 years, I know this game won't work well with a simply amount of attributes and we can see the end result of that..... this game will work with those simple attributes if this game doesn't have magic and only one type of damage.....
please add in more meaningful attributes like we asked in beta, especially magic resistance!!!!
many fantasy RTS and role playing have more attributes than Elemental and elemental is turn base and have tactical battle which should have a lot more than RTS games. And my final fantasy have tons of attributes.....
Finally The solution for Magic Users
Since hero can only cast spell if the sovereign give their essence to them, essence is too rare to just give to anyone. won't giving your essence away to a hero create another channelar and another sovereign? which end up biting you at your butt??? 
so here is my Idea
Instead of giving your sovereign's essence to your hero to cast spell, why not give spells to your heros as an abilities. your sovereign is the all powerful god like mage, like a daemon giving power to people willing to exchange their soul for it.
how this work, your sovereign's have the Imbue Magic Spell abilities, you can only Imbue magic on "Lv1 hero" one time and when it lv up you can imbue it again and so on. pretty much, each time a hero lv up, they gain one slot of magic spell
every time your sovereign use the Imbue abilities, your sovereign will take X amount of damage, use X amount of gold and mana. This prevent Imbue magic spamming to all heros
I can now make a Bear Summoner, a fireball mage, Ice mage, and other cool heros
you may even magic imbue normal unit too, to make magician warrior or body guards. but normal unit can only be imbue with lv1 spellbook spells.
if you guys get the idea, let your imagine get wild

where are the GODs in this game? I know this game lock out all the Elemental magic after the Armageddon, but shouldn't there be priest or monks that still have Divine powers to heal or rise the dead or do mon bo jum bo?
where are the spies? the assassination people like ninjas? where the cute princess?.... wait nvm >.<
