Instead of causing the crash, I go to the main menu and try to select new game. I select yes on the dialog box that pops up warning me about losing any unsaved progress and the game crashes.

If there was a dump zip created in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic on Windows XP), please post that too.
