Note that I had this issue with 3B as well, just never got the time to get the crash reports.

Basically I can't start a game.  I get all the way thru selecting everything and it starts to create the world and "bong" (Windows error sound) and it's frozen, no error message.  I can still move the mouse but can't bring up task manager, can't alt tab.  Elemental background is still "playing", music is still going and the mouse still moves but I can't do anything else.  I have to do a hard reset on the computer to reboot it.

Happens every time.
