So, does it bother anyone else that you can find a great woman, marry her on the spot, send her to your home city to live peacefully and then...

She starts hooking on the streets and pumping out 'our' kids while you are protecting the frigging realm from hellish fiends and renegade wizards in the underworld?  I mean, hey toots, I know it's been a while but what the hell?  You've gained a solid 50 stones and why do I have 2 sons and a daughter to marry off all of a sudden?  No wonder I have no issue sending these bastard children to the darkest parts of the under realm.

Just making a quick insanity check here.  *cough*

Definitely, this is a serious problem. So, in the name of realism, there should be a chance of having a child only when spouse and sovereign are in the same tile (pubs and theatres would add to this chance, naturally). Of course, we could make it even more Song of Ice and Fire-ish, add a chance of a false heir when your wife is in the same tile as any other male character with charisma greater than yours (charisma needs to be more useful, anyway) - and said child would naturally plot with his mother and real father to have you and your legitimate heirs murdered so he can claim your kingdom. Ah yes, and then your sovereign too can have illegitimate children that later make a claim to the throne and start civil wars against your legitimate children. If we want to be historically accurate, even your legitimate heirs should be making a move to get you off the throne (so to speak) sooner rather than later.

Come to think of it, why do kings have kids anyway? Right, because if they don't have an heir, then people who aren't even related to them will be making claims to the throne - better you have a son and know which direction the assassination plot is coming from, at least.

I have to say with what the Devs trotted out about a complex Dynasty System along the likes of A Song Of Ice and Fire...so-far the dynasty and family system is rather lackuster and could use a /lot/ of love before release. Most things could.

This also works in reverse. You can make a female sovereign, send your husband to the capital... then go have some fun in the rest of the world!

They're portraying modern marriage.

I agree though, I think the dev team could learn alot from The Princess Bride

Heck, if you think that's funny... If you keep your sovereign and his wife together out adventuring, their kids still appear in the capital. Apparently pregnancy and birth in this world have some sort of extra-dimensional features, and the birth canal is a wormhole...

i don't know...i understand that yes its a bit unrealistic, but is it totally destroying your ability to suspend you disbelief?  i'm not sure its good for the game to make your sovereign stay at home to just bang it out with his wife to get some kids.

Heh, well I don't think they'd want to have an armored stroller to push around.

I think that a little more life in the character system would be very much a plus.  Loyalty needs to make it in at some point (Probably an expansion), and charisma should govern interactions and leadership potential.

Ideas for "Sims - War of Fertility" are strongly encouraged to to be kept at EA forums.

We're discussing "Elemental - War of Magic" on this forum.

-Hey, how does my sovereign live without pooping? I mean He's been traveling for 40 turns since he ate his last meal and I never saw him "do his business".

Keep you shi realism for real life people, games are made for something else.

I guess I set the tone for all poster to joke but you should have to visit the queen to have a baby, and it should have a story screen like the merchant screen at least. -Jeremy Sr.

Solution:

  • If you're married, you occasionally get a message saying that you and your wife both think you might be ready to have a baby.
  • Game asks if you want your spouse to accompany you for a while.
  • If you choose yes, your spouse is removed from the world map. After a few turns, your spouse returns to (appears in) a city of yours closest to your Sovereign with the newborn baby.
  • If you choose no, it means you decide to postpone having the baby.

Additional stuff to spice up dynasties:

  • After a quest escorting a noble or saving a village or some such, having enough charisma, you might be asked if you want to spend the night at the village / estate celebrating.
  • If you choose yes, there's a chance of having a baby born out of wedlock. This risks your spouse running off and might cause loss of prestige in your capital. The lower your charisma, the higher the risk.

I agree that the current system feels kind of rough and weird. Not that well thought out.

Pure tongue in cheek here.  Just noticed and had a good laugh about it.  Not disrespecting the game, just poking fun at a funny attribute of it.

This idea kind of rules!  Hey chick, I SAVED your sorry tush - how about a little on the side for god sakes?  Boom, bastard child to be dispensed with in the dungeons.  It's like getting a free toy with cracker jack boxes.
