Hello,
I would like to suggest an interesting feature that could create an important end game tension / danger: the titan awakening possibility.
Since the official book isn’t out yet, I’ll base my assumptions on the lore provided on this website and forum. From my understanding, the titans are immortal god-like beings, which seem to feed upon magical energy. To control the world magical energy, they have shaped/trapped the magical sources in the form of the actual shards, and thus, became the only magical users of the world, crushing civilisations and almost destroying the world in the process. I don’t know how they were defeated or banished, but to my assumption, mortal weren’t able to defeat them by physical strength, so they were totally invulnerable vs simple humans and their punny weapons. So, maybe the surviving channellers have done something (like an incredible ritual) to cast them out, or, as the world became less and less magic, Titans were unable to be sustained by the almost depleted magical influx, and were forced to move on to another plane/world to survive.
Anyway, 100+ years in the future, the channellers will reconstruct some civilisation, using the magical energy trapped in the shard (releasing it), and thus, they will inevitably recreate the same mistake as before, that should bring the titan back to the world in a near future. So, my suggestion is the following: as magic become more and more used in a game (a lot of world affecting spells, a important number of shards controlled by the players and AI) I would include a world mechanism that could bring back one titan to a game, and create a possible game altering danger, that may force enemies to stop fighting and unite vs the titan and its spawns, or even destroy the world.
The titans powers aren’t definite yet in the Lore, but as they were 4 and the game title is Elemental, I will assume that they were 4 elemental god-like beings, so something like this could happen if one titan come to the world :
1) Titan X (Fire-Volcano – Immense elemental ?) : Each turn, a volcano will appear randomly in the world. % of fire rain that will start each turn randomly. 1% incremental that the titan comes in, and summon legion of followers (Fire drakes, dragons, fire elemental and other fire beast). If the titan isn’t banished, the world will disappear in lava and blaze.
2) Titan Y (Earth-Earthquake- Great Worm ?) : Each turn, an earthquake will affect a random region of the world. An incremental number of world tile. tiles will be transform to desert (as the spell). 1% incremental per turn that the titan comes in, and summon a legion of followers ( Stone Giant, Earth elemental).
3) Titan Z (Air – Lightning – Tornado) (…)
4) Titan Q (Ice – Blizzard) Random settlements will freeze, tiles will become tundra, ice elemental will be summoned etc.
Nothing is balanced and it’s only a high level suggestion that could add a great tension if we add this possibility (that could be disabled as an option if we create a new game) in late game.
Again, to banish the titan, I would suggest that we could undergo a lot of things really hard, like a combined research in adventuring (trying to find lost information about how they were defeated 100 years ago) / magic (trying to develop a way to banish it) /diplomacy (trying to create an union of world channellers to try a massive ritual that will consume 60 pts of combined essence) and finaly trying to banish it by casting in an ultimate battle vs the titan and its bodygards a really difficult spell that cost a lot of essence and may kill the mage.
