Frogboy say:
Players set a threshold of how many units need to be involved on both sides in order to bring up the tactical battle screen. So it’s quick battle automatically until that threshold is met.IF the threshold is met, the player can choose auto-resolve or tactical battles.
1. The amount of time needed for Tactical combat does not relates to how many units players brought into the field. It is the number of "Stacks" instead. The game should provide a smart and meaningful way to decide how many units are grouped into a stack, and what type. 500 units (of similar type/function/equipment/etc) should be divided into a few Stacks in early game, but when every player is bringing 9000 units into battle, a minimal of 500 units is needed to form a stack.
And of course, the physical size should be considered. You can stuff 500 humonaid into a tactical tile, but you cannot have more than 2 Dragons put into the same tile.

2. "Number of units" should not be used as the unit determining Threshold. 100 units may means a lot early game, but definitely not at late game. Other means should work better considering, maybe player A want only to play 3 Tactical combats only per turn. And these 3 combats is the ones that involve the most number of Stacks involved. For the 4th, 5th battle, it will be auto-resolve or played tactically by AI (behind the scene)
