Following some feedback I have made on essence https://forums.elementalgame.com/385601, I have though more about sovereign statistics.
Brad has stated that your sovereign should feel powerful at the start of the game. Having a sovereign with only 2 times the HP of peasants and the same than wandering NPC doesn't really feel powerful.
It would be another story if the HP of your sovereign (and only for the sovereign) was 3 times the constitution instead of only one time. After all, the sovereign is special since he has essence.
Not to mention that some of the wandering critters have at least 20 or 30 HP. So even with only 5 ATK they can be very dangerous for your 10-15 HP sovereign.
Unless I am mistaken, in the current build, Intelligence has only effect on some damaging spells. It would be nice if it has also an influence on the HP/ATTK/DEF of the summoned creature. Wisdom is only useful for the sovereign for the base spell research.
A magical oriented sovereign should have lots of mana, lots of widsom, lots of intelligence and lots of essence for researching and casting powerful spells. Intelligence and wisdom would feel more useful if they were taken in account calculating the mana. An example would be mana = essence + max(0, INT + WIS - 20). That way, Procipinee with the Pariden faction would starts with 20 mana instead of the 10 in the 2B build.
Charisma is only useful for recruiting NPC. But it should be easier for a charismatic ruler to have people moving to his cities. So the prestige of a city could be the prestige from various batiments and the royalty bonus (like currently), multiplied by a factor based on charisma, something like CHAR/10 , the overall result rounded to the nearer integer. And to prevent some cheese, the insane weakness (which is only reducing prestig in the city the sovereign is) should also prevents the multiplying effect of the charisma
Concerning levelling, currently the only way to level is to kill directly monsters. Which implies that the supercombatant sovereign is the way to go for levelling your sovereign, especially since monsters will always attack first the weakest member in a team. It should be possible to gain XP through
- completing quests, even if they don't include a fight
- for being able to manage a large empire with lots of champions
- for being able to manage successfully battles, even if you don't participate in it
- for managing peace and prosperity for your people. Currently, an aggressive sovereign is recompensed by the XP he gains in battle. It may be atother thing if alliance / trade treaty gives small but constant XP for your sovereign each turn.
