I've been checking out the new 2A monsters, and now they seem a bit pathetic. But, I don't think the way to redress that is to boost their base power levels.
I think we need more abilities, instead!
As an example, let's take the reviled sand golem leaders. These guys are masses of (presumably packed) sand, and they've turned pretty pathetic now. The trouble with that is that they SHOULDN'T be that terrible. What I suggest is that, instead, they gain a bonus to health regeneration (health gained per turn in combat, maybe?) on sand that makes them next to invulnerable. They should be healing faster than your armies can hack at them, and take them down simply from that alone.
Spiders should probably have a poison ability that does damage even after you run off (if they don't already?) and others should have similar things.
Just a nice bit of variety, which will makes things far easier for modders when release comes around.
