One of my heroes picked up an "escort nobleman's son to the estate" quest. While the Estate itself is not that far off "as the crow flies" (about 7 squares to the north), it is on the other side of a lengthy and unbroken mountain range!
On one side, the mountains can't be gotten around because they run right to the sea. To go around them on the other side is a detour of over 30 squares! So to get to the estate, my hero had to walk over 30 squares southwest, north 10+ squares, and about another 30 squares east!
This is just crazy. The game should check for actual walking distance when placing the goal destinations, not just absolute distance. This shouldn't be too hard: the hero already knew which way to walk despite the fog of war covering much of the intervening mountains, and if the game can figure that out, it can easily figure out how long that walk is.
I still have the save if you want a screenshot, but it didn't seem too necessary.
