If a popup (e.g. Research Breakthrough, Book at game start) is covering the center of the screen and you mouse over an NPC on the map behind it, the cursor icon changes to crossed swords. When you move the mouse off the NPC, the cursor icon remains crossed swords, regardless of the mouse location, until the popup closes. At this point, it returns to the default "leaf".
Note: This is only cosmetic. The swords icon can still be used to select X/Close/Continue.
