My desktop resolution is not 800 x 600. It is 1152 x 864. I am running this game in windowed mode, and this is the first time I have encountered the error message, it has not happened before, though now it happens consistently.

** I did some further testing. It seems this message occurs when I have my television connected to my computer, where my television is at 800 x 600, and I suspect any second smaller monitor would also cause this message to pop up.

I'd suggest only checking the monitor that the game is opening to, or the primary monitor, for screen size definitions.

By the way, don't netbooks at the best of times only have 800 x 600?
