Man, Command & Conquer 4 is getting slaughtered by the reviews.  On Gamespot, it's getting an average 3.4 out of 10 by the users, after 734(!) users reviewed it.   What a disappointment!  I was waiting for this.  I'm glad I waited for the reviews.

Yeah, C&C4 is such a piece of shit it isn't worth the bandwidth to torrent it.  Yep, EA's DRM has been cracked already by means of server emulation and redirecting the game's attempt to connect to the server.

I'd be willing to bet most of those users never played it and theyre just giving it 0s because of the DRM.

The pro score on metacritic is 70, user score 3.1. Watch on youtube is informative. Not a temptation for me.

Actually they had a free open beta(which I was a part of) and can tell you the game has less depth than most games on Facebook.  They took away everything the series had. It also seems the entire dev team was fired before its release and its rumored they purposely did this to stick it to EA.  Also withthe first day of launch there were many connection problems and since you have to be online to play single player noone could even play.  I became a pc game player because of the first command and conquer.   If you are looking for a casual game that you can beat in a couple of hours and have 5 minute matches then buy it otherwise pass on it.

I'm confused at people's suprise over this. Let's face it, each CnC (and Red Alert) game has been worse than the last. And the "features" they were touting about for this one made my stomach, amoung other body parts, clench up. Ten minute matches, match-making, these are not the things a strategy gamer is looking for. I'd rather be playing Europa Universalis 3.

Actually, on that note, I'll be seeing you guys.

Well actually CnC 3 and Kanes wrath were pretty good releases even though the rest of what EA did with it wasnt too great.   EU 3 does rule!!!!

I enjoyed all the C&C games from C&C to C&C3 (although RA3 was a bit underwhelming). I wouldn't have said C&C was amazing, but it was a solid game, and did exactly what I expected it to. To me it just defies belief that they'd take one of (if not the biggest) strategy franchies, and completely ruin it's final instalment like this. I mean they knew what worked, they knew what sold well, all they had to do was do a few tweaks to the existing formula, maybe upgrade the graphics slightly, put in a story (with the cut scenes) and they'd have a decent but not great game.

Instead they decide to make a completely different game, and slap the C&C4 name(+story) on it. Even more depressing is that it's the final one in the series so there's no chance of it being a Renegade type game .

I just don't get why so many developers are taking a good formula that they know works, and completely changing it.

Dawn of war (although at least Dawn of War 2 was still a decent game), Supreme commander, C&C4...

Yes, that made me laugh out loud.

Gamespy's review was funny too.

"We've captured Node 1."

"The enemy has Node 2."

"We've captured Node 2."

"The enemy has Node 1."

Keep reading the above four lines over and over for 45 minutes and you'll have a good idea of how a Command & Conquer 4 match plays out.

The multiplayer does seem like a spectacularly amazing waste of time.

I don't hate the single player though.  Better than Dawn of War 2.

Honestly, EA hasn't produced a good RTS since Red Alert 2, back when C&C still said "Westwood" on it.  They've been plagued by high turnover and short production cycles over the past few years, and the quality has been unraveling.  This time around, most of the developers anticipated pink slips when it was over, and that kind of blow to morale is a killer.  All things considered, it's no surprise how C&C4 turned out.

If C&C3 hadn't just been a remake, I would've considered it awesome.  Red Alert 3 was stupidly cheesy, for sure, but still fun.

Anyway I'm guessing EA knew C&C4 was going to bomb before they announced the closure.  It wouldn't make sense to close a studio that was still making money.

The confusing part is why they would publicly announce that.  There's no way in hell any of the developers would put any real effort into their work after knowing you'll be canned after the project ends.  It's like EA flat out telling everyone the game was going to suck badly.  The only other situation I know where the developers knew well in advance their days were numbered was the last Dawn of War expansion, Soulstorm.  It turned out to be real high quality like C&C4 did, and it took Relic months just to fix all the serious bugs they left in it.  It's a safe bet they won't be outsourcing any of their work out again.

How much of that did IRONLORE actually do? It was by far the weakest DoW game/expack there is.

I am a CnC loyalist and I was disappointed by this game. Stardock, please buy the CnC franchise rights, now that they are cheaper and probably on kraig'slist by now. Restore it to glory, hell, make it just like sins only on the ground. Just don't let me down and don't let blizzard near it. Its pretty clear EA doesn't like it fanbase and if they want idiotic fans that watch smallville and... fox shows, let them die happy.

I don't think Relic was at all responsible for any of the actual game development, all of that was done by Iron Lore.  The patches on the other hand were done by Relic, but they didn't patch it well enough because a member of the DoW community named Makata released an Unofficial Bugfix Patch, which is basically a mod that fixes all of the stupid obvious stuff Relic didn't fix.

I caught the ending to CnC4, and it was bad.

How the hell could they have had such a decent game (CnC3) and then do a 360 and make a game worse than the one before it in just about EVERY aspect?????????????????

The whole CaC series started going down since Generals. To me, the best CaC games are still Tiberian Sun Firestorm (now released as freeware ) and Red Alert 2 Yuris Revenge.

It went all down hill for me after Red Alert: Aftermath. Loved the sheer selection of units.
