Not sure if this is a bug or just bad luck.
I was defeated by a lvl 8 as i just started a new game. Didnt even have time to start research, or nothing.
Try hitting the start game button more skillfully next time.
Did you spawn right on top of a creep?
apparently so, lvl 8 Troll iirc
In that case be sure to post your map seed on the bad starts thread if you've still got the debug.
