Yes, it's a lightning storm over an exploding volcano, which seems to happen a lot for various, disputed, reasons.

Pretty sure that it's the Chaitén volcano in Chile. Pretty sure I'm at least 5 or 10 years from owning a video card that could handle imagery like that in a game, but it sure seems like the devs should have a poster-sized print of it somewhere on their walls.

It's theorized by many Scientists that when large volcanoes break the surface of the Earth they cause a great disturbance in the Magnetic Field of the Earths crust resulting in a more then normal activity level of Lightning and other atmospheric anomalies. Ball Lightning has even been reported in a much higher frequency then normal around volcanoes and other places where there is a high concentration of metals in the Earth.

Some Scientists also suspect when the debris cloud is thrown high into the atmosphere that it is littered with powdered metals which act like mini lightning rods and set off the lightning.

New name for this spell.  Cloud of Geddon.

 

 

Geddon could be a reference to some powerful archmage living in the world that led to the cataclysm.

 

 

Edit: the soon to be card picture for the Cloud of Geddon spell is now on my desktop (cropped to contain mostly lightning and cloud) 

Now of course, I have no control over spells or cards, although this is what I would recommend

Am I just ignorant, or do the 'Segways' under the swarm of cops look like some combat and/or knockoff version? I don't recall having seen the semi-squatting posture before, and it kinda looks like the riders' shins are bearing weight or maybe a secondary guidance input. The latter seems more plausible given the rifles...

That's good, but I like "wrath of Geddon" better.
