[CRASH] CTD from splash screen

I'm having the same issue, tried deleting the screens folder as suggested, but still crashing to desktop from the splash screen. Also submitted to Fogbugz.  

 

EDIT: Re-installed video card drivers, game is running again.

 

EDIT 2: Never mind, got through 1 game, now back to crashing at splash screen.

EDIT 3: Seem to have found a work-around. Set the skip intro to 1 in the prefs.ini file, now the intro is skipped, and so far no more crash to desktop.

What worked for me, under Windows 7, is to run the game as an admin rather than a normal user.  If I do that I don't get the CTD at the splash screen.

Running as admin makes me think it's either a 'write permissions' bug or a 'downloading the data' bug.  The fact that removing the intro fixes it seems to meen these are two seperate issue and will be even more fun to track down.

I got the same problem. Reported it to fogbugz with ticket number 70720.

If I run Elemental as an administrator I get past the splash screen. But then it crashes either at the beginning of the intro or at the main menu depending on if I have skip intro set to 1 or 0.

 I have been having the same bug intermittently. Sometimes when i open the game i will ctd at the splash screen and others it will continue into the game for me to find a map with a bugged river. I submited one of the bad seeds (to the forums) and all of my crash bugs (to frogbugz) with the zip file, debug file, and dxdiag.

It looks like running as Admin isn't the only thing going on.  While I was able to get two games started while running as Admin a third and fourth game crashed at the splash screen.

I updated my graphic drivers(to 191.07 released today) and now when I run the game as an administrator it works. It doesn't matter whether I have the skipintro set to 0 or 1.
