Report Bad Starting Locations Here

If you are experiencing any of the following issues with map generation:

- Start locations very near to opponents
- Start locations on impassable terrain (mountains or sea)
- Start locations completely blocked off from other players
- Maps with rivers running across the sea
- Other strange terrain, especially if it would affect gameplay

Please open your debug.err file after this happens and look for a line like this:

Debug Message:  Map Random Seed: 1253569728

Then paste the number there into this thread with a description of the sort of map issue you had. Please do not respond here for issues resulting from starting a second game in the same session or loading a save, as those are different problems.

If the map issue you're seeing is one of the "other" kind, please include a screenshot too so we can see what sort of issue it is.

Update: We should have enough examples of bad rivers now, please keep further reports to start location issues.

Map Random Seed: 1253573670

Ok, multiple problems here, enemies starting too close together and rivers going into the ocean. Here is 1 big overview screenie and 2 closeups on the map. Note that this is on turn 2.

I can provide screenies of the other 2 rivers as well from the big one, but you get the idea. Hope this helps and is what you are referring to.

I wound up with a water shard literally right beside me (1253573209), but of course now that I know what to do all of the really wierd stuff has stopped happening.

I made a thread here about my start location being in the Ocean.

I've also experienced similar start locations as the above posts detail.

  • Too close to soverign, who's plot of fertile land is immersed in a small lake: 1253580819

Two rivers into the ocean (At least that's all I found before a crash): 1253580959

One was in the southwest corner.  The other was approximately North/NorthWest.

No real gameplay changing shots here, just a few oddities.

 

Random seed: 1253587816

We've got the usual river into sea (but into the sea a lot), rivers ending on land and general weirdness.

 

Random seed: 1253588693

We've got deltas on both ends of this river, and one is inland.

 

Random seed: 1253589134

This looks like a chunk of land out to sea that doesn't quite have enough mass to be outlined, so it looks kinda odd. The same one also had some mountains extending into the ocean.

 

Random seed: 1253590185

Nearly all the rivers on this map were in this location, all bunched up.  Several have the rivers ending on land syndrome.

Debug Message: Map Random Seed: 1253618462 Two different instances of rivers going into the ocean.

EDIT: More water issues! There were about four rivers going out to sea, and then this problem with an in-land lake. Also, I don't know if there is going to be some kind of flight or water transportation in the final version, but this map had an island cut off from the mainland. EDIT again: I'm missing a plug in or something, forum doesn't like Firefox ><

Map Seed: 1253633187 - Wierd rivers.

Map Seed: 1253633749 - Starting Positions too close.

Map Seed: 1253634065 - 2 fertile lands connect, starting position too close, wierd river

 

Each pictures were taken in round 2 via a custom unit with sight 100.

Same thing as always, river going into the sea (how the heck do you use Jing or Screencast to make comments in photos ><).

River in a sea!

The above picture has rivers in the sea and an area of the island completely blocked off by mountains.

Double river action!

Starting too close to one another.

River kind of going through mountains, and into the sea!

EDIT: Sorry for the h-scroll, I thought that was going to auto-thumbnail-like.  Welp, using photobucket from here on in!

No pictures I'm afraid since I cannot get my usual hoster to work and my firefox is a bit dodgy lately.

Three issues in this seed:

  • Curious starting location right next to another sovereign,
  • a third sovereign is located maybe 15 tiles to my south,
  • and there is at least one river running through a lake.

Starting positions too close: 1253668284

River weirdness, plus continent about half the size of normal : 1253669141

I am not sure about reporting the continent size, but some maps fill about 30-40 % of the screen, and others 70- 80%.  I don't know if some are supposed to be small and some big or not, so I posted the last one.

Instead of Imageshack you could also try making a photobucket account to host the pictures?  Its still pretty convenient
