How do I post images?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to post images in my posts. The dialog box calls for an "image url." I have tried posting jpegs from my HDD, using the exact url of images on websites, and even from an ftp server, all to no avail. I have avoided asking how to do this, thinking that I am missing something obvious. But it is unapparent to me how to do this. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Upload it to an image hosting site like imageshack or photobucket, and they'll provide a link to use for forums.

It's the actual URL on a server. For example:

 

http://files.kryofx.com/pirc.png

 

put into the URL blank in the insert image box:

 

 

If you use something like Imageshack, be sure that you get the actual URL of the image and not one that loads to a page on their site with the image in it.
